STELR at Melbourne STEM Education Conference

The STELR team (Peter Pentland and Pennie Stoyles) attended a STEM Education Conference hosted by Informa on 27 and 28 July at the Rendezvous Grand Hotel in Melbourne. The conference attracted around 150 participants from across Australia and New Zealand. Issues addressed included the STEM/STEAM debate, STEM role models for students, women in STEM professions and the effectiveness of current investment by government and industry in STEM initiatives. A number of case studies were presented and Peter talked about the STELR Program as part of a session titled Innovation Sensation.

We would like to congratulate Rick Johnson from Rostrata Primary School in WA who was drawn as the winner of the STELR Wind Energy Kit. Rick also was a presenter at the conference and he spoke about implementing STEM in primary schools. Rick hosts a primary science webpage called Jonnosscience
