The STELR team will be running a 5-day STELR Renewable Energy workshop in Bogor, Indonesia from 19 – 23 October 2015. The program has been jointly organized by ATSE and the South East Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) regional centre for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel (QITEP) in Science. The program will focus on inquiry-based science education and will use local contexts and issues relevant to South East Asian schools. The Keynote address will be presented by ATSE fellow, Professor Lyn Beazley AO who is current West Australian of the Year, past Chief Scientist of WA and a champion of science education and in particular, the STELR program.
As well as ATSE staff there will be presenters from Charles Darwin University, the Victorian Space Science Education Centre and the Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning.
40 teachers and teacher trainers are registered to attend from throughout South East Asia. Two of the schools represented, SMP IT Darrul Hikmah and SMPN 1 Bontang, have been donated class sets of STELR Renewable Energy Kits by our principal sponsor, Orica.
This is the third year that the STELR program has been run. The QITEP in Science has translated STELR curriculum resources into Bahasa Indonesia.
