Good news on solar bike paths

A recent article from Science Alert has reported on the success of a solar bike path trial in the Netherlands. The 70-metre  section of  SolaRoad bike path was installed late in 2014 and the recent report, released six months into the trial, suggests that the bike path is working better than first expected by generating enough energy to power a small household.

Last year, a solar road art installation inspired by  Van Gough's 'Starry Night' was also installed in the Netherlands by  Studio Roosengaarde. Imagine if the energy generated by day, could be used to power road markings or street lights at night.

A company called Solar Roadways in the USA is also researching the use of solar panels on parking lots and roads.
