Mathematics of Solar Panels
The following activities have been prepared by the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute. They are designed as “bolt on” activities to accompany the STELR Renewable Energy activities. They can be used as a part of an integrated studies program or as stand-alone activities to show real life applications of Mathematics or Geography.
The activities have a set of teacher notes and are mapped, where appropriate, the Australian Mathematics and Geography curricula.
This is an activity that introduces students to the concept of elevation and bearing. They undertake a practical exercise to determine the optimum position for a solar panel. It is aimed a students in years 10 and 11.
